About RealMedia and this Event

The RealMedia links on the Proceedings/Program page are the result of our first try at broadcasting and encoding audio and video of a live event. About 90% of the workshop is available in RealMedia format. Unfortunately, the audio stream of the first couple speakers was not usable. Also there are a couple of brief non-audible portions in the questions and answer sessions. These problems result from both last minute upgrades and technical problems in mixing the audio.

To view the content, you will need:

You may notice that the quality fluctuates from presentation to presentation due to the nature of live events. Lighting for example, needed to be low enough to allow good computer projection. But more light was really needed on the speakers. Also, compromises had to be made due to the technology. In the order of importance, audio would be first, followed by seeing the visuals. And lastly, watching the speaker. So smooth motion was the area compromised the most.

In general, the audio level will be a little low. But it should be decent quality. If you experience a scratchy sound, truncation of words, or a lot of background hiss, you might want to look under the "View" menu of the RealPlayer and select the "Preferences" option. On the "Advanced" tab, make sure that the top two check boxes are unchecked. Also, make sure the playback quality slider at the bottom is over to the "Best Audio Quality" side. Finally, make sure that the "Bandwidth" setting, under the "Connection" tab is set to the best setting your network configuration allows.

Happy viewing....
