Non-standard charged current interactions: from beta decays to the LHC

Abstract

The study of beta decays has historically played a central role in establishing what we now call the Standard Model of electroweak interactions. Nowadays, precision studies of semi-leptonic decays involving light quark flavors (u,d,s) can reveal signatures of non-standard interactions arising from broad classes of Standard Model extensions. In this talk I describe the status and prospects of precision low-energy tests involving beta decays and the interplay of these low-energy probes with searches at the Large Hadron Collider. I will first focus on the scenario in which the new physics originates in the multi-TeV scale, in which a direct comparison of low-energy and LHC searches can be performed in an effective theory framework. I will then discuss some examples in which the mediators of the new interactions become accessible at the LHC.
