AbstractDr. Mike Ramsey, one of ORNL's most successful entrepreneurs, returns on December 3 to share his experiences as a researcher, entrepreneur and scientist. Dr. Ramsey began his scientific career as a Wigner Fellow at ORNL in 1979, joined the permanent staff in 1981, and was named a Corporate Research Fellow in 1997. He joined the Faculty of UNC Chapel Hill in 2004 where he holds the Minnie N. Goldby Distinguished Chemistry Chair.
While at ORNL, Dr. Ramsey developed the Lab on a Chip technology with LDRD funding. Patents for the technology were filed in 1995, and Dr. Ramsey co-founded Caliper Technologies that same year. Caliper's LabChip System became the gold standard for nucleic acid and protein separation/fractionation, and in 2000. Caliper became a publicly traded company. The company was subsequently acquired by PerkinElmer in 2011 for $600M. Today, PerkinElmer's Caliper division employs more than 500 people and continues to be a market leader.
Please join us to learn more about Mike's journey from ORNL to the boardroom and how we can leverage his experience to create future success stories.
