AbstractFilling soft polymer matrices with nanoparticles featuring a high specific surface area leads to hybrid materials that may be optimised for a broad range of applications. Although polymer nanocomposites have been extensively studied for several decades a clear microscopic picture of the polymer matrix in such composites has not yet emerged. This lecture will present a systematic neutron scattering study on the structure and dynamics of the polymer chains from the segmental to the chain level in nanocomposites and well defined nanopores. Using appropriate model systems, both geometrical and topological confinement as well as the role of the polymer – nanoparticle interactions will be addressed.

About the Forum:
The CNMS-SNS Research Forum is a special seminar series hosted jointly by the Center for Nanophase Materials Science and the Spallation Neutron Source to highlight research of outstanding scientists at the interface between nano and neutron sciences. It is anticipated that the research forum will run semiregularly with a handful events per calendar year.
