AbstractDr. Dale Klein will discuss his experiences as Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Chemical and Biological Defense Programs after the 9/11 attack. This will include issues of protecting the United States and our allies from weapons of mass destruction. A discussion will then be provided for the current world status of nuclear energy based on Dr. Klein's involvement as the former Chairman of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission and current Chairman of the Nuclear Safety Review Board for the United Arab Emirates and the current Chairman of the Nuclear Reform Monitoring Committee created for Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) (after the Fukushima Daiichi accident).
About the Speaker
Dr. Klein is currently the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research in the Office of Academic Affairs for the University of Texas System and serves at the University of Texas at Austin as the Associate Director of the Energy Institute, Associate Vice President for Research, and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering (Nuclear Program). He is a former U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission chairman and served as the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Programs. He holds a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from the University Missouri-Columbia.
