UT-Battelle Scholarship awarded to Farragut student
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.,
May 16, 2001
Eric C. Mueller, a member of Farragut High School's Class of 2001, has been named recipient of the first UT-Battelle Scholarship for children of employees at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
The scholarship is worth up to $16,000 over a four-year period and is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to attend the University of Tennessee. The scholarship includes a summer internship working at ORNL.
"The UT-Battelle Scholars program has two goals," said ORNL Director Bill Madia. "We want to strengthen the Lab's partnership with UT, and we want to encourage bright young people to consider a research career at ORNL."
Mueller is a National Merit finalist and Presidential Scholar finalist. He plans to major in computer science and mathematics.
He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the math honors society, and the Science Honors Society at Farragut. He also is a member of Farragut's Astronomy Club and Computer Club, and the Scholars Bowl and Science Bowl teams.
Mueller is the son of Donald and Jody Mueller of Farragut. His father is employed in the Operational Safety Services Division at ORNL.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a Department of Energy multiprogram facility operated by UT-Battelle.
