UT-Battelle funds Oak Ridge High School science lab

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., May 21, 2001 — A new science laboratory at Oak Ridge High School has been created through funding provided by UT-Battelle.

The lab is one of five science labs that have been funded by UT-Battelle during the 2000-2001 academic year. Billy Stair, director of the Office of Communications and Community Outreach at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which is managed by UT-Battelle, said funding for more top-rated science labs in East Tennessee is UT-Battelle's goal.

"Our goal is to fund six science labs a year at area schools," Stair said. "We want to make this new science lab at Oak Ridge High School one of the best equipped science labs in the nation."

Officials from UT-Battelle and the Oak Ridge Schools toured the lab Monday.

ORNL is a DOE multiprogram facility operated by UT-Battelle.
