Contract awarded for SNS chillers

A $964,299 contract has been awarded to provide two 1,200-ton chillers and one 500-ton chiller with options available for two additional 1,200-ton chillers for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The chillers will be used to provide comfort cooling for laboratory areas, office areas, and equipment rooms for the entire SNS Site.
The contract was awarded to the Trane Company of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Construction Management for the project is performed by Knight/Jacobs Joint Venture.
The contract schedule for delivery of the two 1,200-ton chillers and one 500-ton chiller is June 2002.
When completed in 2006, the SNS will become the world's leading research facility for study of the structure and dynamics of materials using neutrons. The SNS will operate as a user facility that will enable researchers from the United States and abroad to study the science of materials that forms the basis for new technologies in telecommunications, manufacturing, transportation, information technology, biotechnology, and health.
