Audio Spot: Masters degree nursing program would help in response to hurricane disasters
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.,
Sep. 26, 2005
A master's degree program in homeland security nursing and response to mass casualty events such as hurricanes is being offered by the University of Tennessee with some of the training provided by the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Oak Ridge Homeland Security Director John Doesburg says nurses will receive special training from the laboratory.
"When you don't have one or 10 patients, when you have 100, 1,000 and 10,000 patients and how you handle that situation, we can apply resources and research against problems that come up from training."
ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy.
