Audio Spot: Oak Ridge High School wins DOE's Tennessee Science Bowl
OAK RIDGE, Tenn.,
March 3, 2008
Oak Ridge High School is the champion of the 2008 U.S. Department of Energy's Tennessee Science Bowl held recently in Knoxville.
The Oak Ridge team was one of 54 from 33 Tennessee high schools competing in the all-day science and math focused academic competition.
Oak Ridge High School teacher and Coach Nita Ganguly says her team began preparing intently in August.
"We have divided up the subjects so everybody can become an expert in each of the subjects," Ganguly says. "There is an overlap, but when they divide it up and they see there are deficiencies, then we go in and lecture and have work sheets and study from those, as well."
The Oak Ridge team will advance to the National Science Bowl May 1-6 in Washington, D.C.
ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy.
