Research Experience and Interests

Kassie joined GIST in the summer of 2011 while pursuing her master’s at the University of Tennessee in Geography with a Minor in Environmental Management and Policy. Her current work includes developing an open-source map of the United States energy grid and modeling energy needs in developing countries.
While at the University of Tennessee, Kassie conducted research on climate change decision-making within the realm of public land management in southeastern Alaska, central Alaska, and the Northern Territory of Australia. She is interested in creating and disseminating tools to help decision-makers adapt and mitigate climate and other anticipated social and environmental changes.

Prior to joining GIST, Kassie worked in National Parks in Alaska and Kentucky, served as an Executive Director for a non-profit in southeastern Kentucky, and helped design InterCultural Dialogues, an undergraduate-facilitated course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
