The Nuclear Science and Engineering Directorate is pleased to announce the winners of its Summer 2011 Student Poster Competition. And the winners are...

  • 1st Place—Christopher Perfetti (University of Michigan), NESLS intern
    Mentor: Brad Rearden (Reactor and Nuclear Systems Division)
  • 2nd Place—Areg Hayrapetian (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), NESLS/CASL intern
    Mentor: Peter Blau (Material Science and Technology Division)
  • 3rd Place—Nathan George (University of Tennessee-Knoxville), NESLS intern
    Mentor: Kurt Terrani (Fuel Cycle and Isotopes Division)

A total of 27 students participated in the competition, representing 6 divisions and 4 internship programs. The directorate also expresses its thanks to Matt Jessee and Kevin Clarno for chairing this year's competition.

GEM fellow wins technical presentation competition

Christian Osorio, a National GEM Consortium fellow and also a summer intern in NSED, won first place in the technical presentation competition at the GEM conference in Washington D.C. Christian competed against GEM students from other DOE labs and various companies from around the country. He was one of four GEM students representing ORNL. Brian Egle (Fuel Cycle and Isotopes Division) served as Christian's mentor.
