Organic Analysis

The Organic Analysis program of RMAL primarily analyzes mixed waste for hazardous contaminants that are governed by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). These compounds are classified into four groups semivolatiles (SVO), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), volatiles (VOA), and non-halogenated volatiles (NHVOA) each requiring specific sample preparative and analytical methods based upon EPA's SW-846 Methodology. Our laboratory routinely analyzes both liquid and solid (sludge) matricies.  Documented variations of the methods may be used in order to maintain radiation exposures As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA); however the methods are validated and meet "compliance" criteria established by EPA.  Of the four analytical groups, the analysis for semivolatiles and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's) are done the most frequently.
