Setup Instructions and Trouble Shooting

Step 1:
Download and install Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) for Java Runtime Edition (JRE) for your operating system.
Windows version:
All other versions:

For Windows, be sure that the files jai_codec.jar, jai_core.jar and vecmath.jar are placed inside the lib\ext folder in the current Java folder. The default is C:\Program Files\Java\jreXXX\lib\ext, where XXX depends upon the version installed (e.g. jre1.60_05 for Java version 6 update 5). If you have the latest Java, the directory may be called c:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\ext. If you are unsure of which Java version you are running, type “java –version” in a DOS prompt to receive the current version number.

Step 2:
Download and install Java3D for your operating system.
Windows version:
All other versions:

Step 3:
Download and install latest graphics card driver for your machine.

Step 4: (Windows Vista)
If you get an error message such as “Javapeno detected that some required JAR's were missing,” note that the primary jar files that Javapeño is looking for are listed below. You can download them here.

Ensure these jars are in all of your Java directories.
C:\Program Files\Java <== Vista 32-bit and 64-bit
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java <== Vista 64-bit

In these directories you will most likely have either \jreX or \jdkX where ‘X’ is a version number. You may have several actually. Search through these directories to find your installed jar files listed above. The installation procedure should have installed them in: “C:\Program Files\Java\jreX\lib\ext” where X is your version. Copy these jars and paste them into your other java directory, namely, “C:\Program Files(x86) \Java\jreX\lib\ext”. You should also do this if you have a jdk installed. The jdk path is a little different. It will be “...\jdkX\jre\lib\ext”.

If you don’t have administrator privileges on your machine, you will need an administrator to perform some of the above changes. If you do have an administrator account but are usually not logged in as an administrator, then you may right click on javapeno.bat and choose “run as administrator”.
