The Remote Systems Group of the NSTD division develops remote tools for hazardous operation.  The application of the technology could be in areas where hands-on operation is not possible.  The students are exposed to fundamentals of robotics and remote operations through short lectures, technology tours, and videos of past projects.  This years ARC students were asked to build and program robots using the Vex robotics kit.  The task was to simulate a Mars exploration mission where they have to explore a small area.  The students were asked to use sensors on the robots (sonar, encoders, light, contact etc.) to navigate in the area.   They were asked to identify a change in color on the floor to simulate water or regions of interest and come back to the home base.  The students will give a short presentation and demonstration of the robot on July 20th, 2007.
