United Way ’99: Summitt, book fair

University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball coach Pat Head Summitt is scheduled to visit ORNL Tuesday, June 22, to help kick off the Lab’s 1999 United Way Campaign. The coach, who made several visits to Oak Ridge while serving as co-chair of the Greater Knoxville UW campaign in 1996, will share her thoughts on United Way during an all-hands meeting at 11:30 a.m. in Wigner Auditorium.

Plans also call for her to spend some time visiting with employees and signing autographs before departing for a visit to Y-12. Get your orange and white memorabilia ready and prepare to talk United Way with the nation’s best coach.

The Lab’s UW Committee is sponsoring a book fair June 22–25 in the Flagpole Lobby, Building 4500-N, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Wednesday. Past book fairs have been very well received by ORNL employees, and the committee expects this one to be as successful. Ten percent of the proceeds go toward the Lab’s UW goal.

The fair features new premium-quality best sellers, children’s books, cookbooks and educational and reference books. Educational children’s toys also are available. Purchases can be made with cash, check or credit card (VISA, Mastercard or Discover). Before the book fair, coupons will be provided to ORNL divisions to allow employees to enter a daily drawing for a free book.

Engineering Technology Division Director Ted Fox is chairing this year’s campaign.
