AbstractThe goal of the National Laboratories Professional Development Workshop is to mentor senior graduate students, post-docs, assistant and associate level faculty, and laboratory professional junior staff from underrepresented groups in the area of computational science about the successful strategies for navigating the professional ladder and exposure to the various professional opportunities in computational science at places such as the National Laboratories. In particular, the focus of this workshop is on the following underrepresented groups: African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and People with Disabilities. The workshop will include panels of successful professionals discussing strategies for navigating the professional ladder, effective methods for networking within the lab and with the broader community, being an effective team member (from the perspective of team managers as well as team members), effective communication (oral and written), the proposal process, and a discussion about successful strategies from a panel of staff from underrepresented groups.
The participant cost is funded by the DOE ASCR program.
