Project Title: Recovery and Purification of Actinium 227 from Actinium-Beryllium Neutron Sources

The goal of this project is to separate and purify Ac-227 from surplus actinium-beryllium neutron sources. When completed, the Ac-227 can be used as a source for the decay production of very high purity Th-227 and Ra-223, medically important alpha-emitting isotopes.

Matt is from Jonesborough, Tennessee. He attended Tennessee Technological University, where he earned a BS in ACS Chemistry (December 2009) and an MS in Chemistry (December 2010). He will pursue a PhD at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Matt spends his free time playing soccer and tennis. He likes spending time outdoors and cooking.
