The mission for the web design group was to make a website for the ARC Summer Institute 2007 program. To do this, we had to learn HTML, a coding system used to write programs including websites. After learning how to create pages, put text and images on them, organizing them with tables, and linking them together, we started on the actual website that would be our research project. The basic design and frame was designed by our mentor, and we then had to create all of the pages using it and adding content to it. We had to try to gather photos and learn how to resize them and format them so that they can be put onto the website. We also had to create all of the pages ourselves and make sure every page was linked to the others. On these pages we had to then write information about the other research groups and what they were doing for their projects. In addition, we had to write about all of the activities that we have done in the program. With everyone being in a different group then us, we had to get pictures of their groups and upload them onto the computer to put on the website. Everything has to be kept up to date, as data was constantly flowing into our hands that we had to add to the site. After we gathered all of the information, and after we wrote the content for the site, we had to put it into the HTML format. Using HTML in a practical situation was the true benefit of the experience.
